Vampire Academy Series Clubhouse

This thread is for those TDS members that are fans of Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series (Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss) and wish to discuss it since the last book in the series, Shadow Kiss, ended on such a cliff hanger!!!

SPOILER WARNING: This thread will contain TONS of spoilers so if you haven't read the books and plan on it or haven't finished all three yet then you might want to avoid this thread.

Here are some of my thoughts to get us started in discussion. We would love to hear anyone’s thoughts, opinions, and theories as to what will happen next in ‘Blood Promise’ which will be released in July 2009.

Also, if you are a Dimitri fan and just want some consolation we are here for you. We understand your pain.

So my thoughts so far are these:

#1 - We don't know for SURE that Dimitri is Strigoi yet. Even though that is what Mason said...why should we take his ghostly word for it? I want more proof than just Mason head nod that Dimitri is 100% Strigoi.

#2 – I think Victor Dashkov is behind all the Strigoi banding together. The Strigoi have never banded together before. He has to be there leader. But what, besides domination over the vampire world, is he trying to accomplish? I think he is the one who had Dimitri captured 'cause he needs Lissa and Rose to carry out his evil plans.

#3 - If Dimitri is Strigoi, then how do we know he will be an evil Strigoi ( )? As we saw with Christian's parents, they still loved him even though they were Strigoi. They also had decided not to change him until he was older. I often wonder if Dimitri is Strigoi if he might try to find Rose & change her into Strigoi so he can keep her forever because he loves her.

Vampire Academy, page 225:

Christian: “I mean, my parents were scary, yeah, but they still looked like my parents – a little paler, I guess. Some red in their eyes. But they talked and walked the same way. I didn’t know anything was wrong with them, but my aunt did. She was watching me when they came for me.”

Rose: “Were they going to convert you? You were really little.”

Christian: “I think they were going to keep me until I was older, then turn me. Aunt Tasha wouldn’t let them take me. They tried to reason with her, convert her too, but when she wouldn’t listen, they tried to take her by force. She fought them – got really messed up – and then the guardians showed up. Like I said, an army of Death.”

#4 – Due to Lissa’s Spirit use and Rose’s connection to the World of the Dead, I wonder if they can save Dimitri’s soul if he is indeed turned Strigoi? Why can’t Rose tap into this place & find out where souls go?

#5 – We never found out what happened to Guardian Mikhail Tanner and Ms. Sonya Karp. Did he ever find her & kill her? They too were lovers & Guardian Tanner had made it his life’s mission to hunt down Sonya until he killed her because he loved her.

#6 - I think that maybe Lissa, Christian, Eddie & Adrian will come after Rose & help her. She is going to need their help. As we saw from the Guardian Tanner experience it is very hard to find Strigoi all on your own.

#7 - I think we may meet Rose's dad in the next book as the Queen mentioned him.

#8 – I wish Rose hadn’t promised Adrian she would give them a try when she returns. This makes me so mad. I know there are probably Adrian fans out there but I have no clue why when we all know Dimitri is her true soul mate. Dimitri is Rose’s equal. I don’t see Rose & Adrian as a happy ending. He is too used to getting his own way & she will constantly have to look after him…just like with Lissa. At least Christian & Dimitri can look after and take care of themselves.

#9 - I was happy when Rose decided to do something for herself for a change. Lissa needs to grow up. She needs to learn to be there for Rose the same way Rose is always there for her. I am hoping Lissa will see that she needs to help Dimitri if she wants her friendship with Rose to continue since she refused to help 'heal' Dimitri.

Ok, so those are just some jumping off points for discussion. We can use this thread to post any new news we hear of the series too as Richelle often posts updates on her Live Journal blog ‘Even Redheads Get The Blues’ . NO STRIGOI! NO ADRIAN! NO BABY!

On January 1, 2009 Richelle Mead posted this in her blog:

For now, my first part of 2009 is going to be a little hectic. Counting today, I have exactly 11 days to finish the first draft of Blood Promise. That's 35k words, which writers--whose lives revolve around word count--will recognize as a bit steep. I think I've got to slam through it and average 6k words a day--which is also steep, particularly since my hand injuries are acting up. And remember: this is just the first draft. BP is a long way from being 'finished.' It's got a few more drafts to go.

I hate for my blog to continually be about Blood Promise updates, but since I keep getting asked a few questions over and over, I figured I'd answer them here for you:

1. Alas, I'm afraid there's no way in this universe that BP can come out any sooner. Sorry! It's physically impossible for me, and the book company needs a set amount of time to edit the manuscript, do the cover, print, and do a few other tasks. So, release time is still in July (date unknown), no matter what other sources are saying.

2. The excerpt will go up one month before release day, just like before. And nope--no exceptions to this either.

3. I'll post the description for it on my website in another month or so. The manuscripts in the VA series undergo radical changes--you would never recognize the first draft of Frostbite. So, I can't put up the description of BP until I feel confident the book will stay that way.

4. I think the cover will be ready sometime this month, but I can't say for sure. It's out of my control.

5. While details in the middle change, the endings of each book (and the series) were planned out the first day I sat down and wrote Vampire Academy. So, I don't know whether you'll love or hate the ending...but it's set in stone.

6. Someday I'll draw and post the molnija marks. Someday.

I hope these are helpful (and not too depressing) for those who have been wondering.

I am totally rooting for Dimitri to come back!!! He can't be dead/Strigoi then killed by Rose...There is a way out of this mess!! I can wait for July and Blood Promises! I just can't....

So anyways, let's hear other people opinion on the matter! I'm with Obs on all this (which is awesome and amazingly analyzed the thrid book! Yay!).

And I'm just fascinated with Richelle Mead. She is an awesome author. I mean how much she foreshadowed everything in a way that is actually real foreshadowing (not like someone we know) It's amazing how her books are constructed and all. She really deserves to be more known! And I would totally love some VA movies!!!

I would love to have a VA movie too Merry!!

Richelle has talked about this on her blog and has said that she has had some talks about VA becoming a movie but that so far nothing has come of it. Let's hope that maybe Shadow Kiss will help push that along!

Although...who could EVER play awesome, badass, gorgeous Dimitri??? Does such a man exist???

Ok, I'll stop now. But I am really, really sad about Dimitri possibly being a Strigoi. I don't want to believe it. I refuse to believe it.

I don't know hey. They should take some dark, unknown russian actor to play him!!! And a badass and awesome one too! (I'm struck on the word awesome today!) I would love a VA movie really!!! To rip the Twilight movie appart...lol!

So I had a thought today (because I can't stop thinking about possible theories.....)

What if Dimitri's grandmother comes into the picture, and she helps Rose to find Dimitri? Because why else would Dimitri have mentioned that his grandmother is still alive? and that she's psychic? And also that way Rose will become familiar with the "blood whore" world that she thinks is so bad. Because remember Dimitri also told her that that world is not as bad as Rose imagines it to be.

So will we meet Dimitri's grandmother??

Is it July yet??

Sadly the whole bunch of snow that fell all day indicate me that no, we're not July yet !

I was thinking about that too blue...Like if we get to see Dimitri's grandmother/family (mom and sisters)...Since we think that Dimitri maybe is in Siberia and Rose is following him, maybe we will get to see Dimitri's family...! Interesting!

I would love, love, love to meet Dimitri's family! I think they too would like to meet Rose as he loved her and had hinted in Shadow Kiss that he wanted her to meet his family. I bet all of Dimitri's family is badass!

I wonder if Strigoi Dimitri *shudders* will try to kill his father since he hated him so much...

I was just thnking about Rose's father....

It would be great for Rose to finally met her dad. He is a Moroi royal, right? How cool would it be if he is also a Spirit user and can teach Lissa and Adrian to do AWESOME things using Spirit!!! And IF (if, if, if, if) Dimitri is Strigoi, then Lissa, Adrian AND Rose can somehow help Dimitri to get his soul back.

I was also thinking that perhaps Adrian's role in all this is to be a "sacrificial lamb" of sorts. Will Adrian finally grow up and do something unselfish for a change? Would he be willing to die for someone/something that he cares about? Am I totally crazy for thinking that Adrian can grow up??
